About the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider
Launched a year after the Giulietta Sprint coupé, the Spider used the same twin-cam four-cylinder engine — initially 1.3 litres — in a lighter, open body designed and built by Pininfarina rather than Bertone. It quickly became one of the most sought-after small Italian sports cars of its era, popular on both sides of the Atlantic and widely raced in period.
Values and desirability follow the usual pattern for the model: the earlier, more delicate 'round tail' cars built through 1959 are generally the most prized, before a 1959 restyle brought a squared-off tail and other detail changes for the rest of production into the early 1960s. Either way, the combination of Alfa's twin-cam engine and Pininfarina's proportions has kept the Giulietta Spider a benchmark classic Italian roadster.
