About the Maserati Bora
Developed while Citroën held a controlling stake in Maserati, the Bora combined Giugiaro's sharp-edged Italdesign styling with a mid-mounted V8 and, distinctively, a Citroën-sourced hydraulic system used for the pop-up headlights, pedal box adjustment and brakes — an unusual technical crossover between two very different automotive traditions.
As Maserati's first genuine mid-engine production car, the Bora represented a significant shift for the brand, moving away from the front-engine GT formula of the 3500 GT and Ghibli toward the mid-engine supercar layout that rivals like Lamborghini and De Tomaso were also pursuing at the time — while keeping a level of comfort and usability unusual for the class, reflecting Maserati's GT-car roots.
