About the Maserati Ghibli (AM115)
Launched in 1967, the original Ghibli used a low, wide front-engine body designed by Giugiaro during his time at Ghia — a shape that, alongside the contemporary Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari Daytona, defined the golden age of Italian GT design. Power came from a 4.7-litre (later 4.9-litre SS) V8 derived from Maserati's racing programme.
Unlike the mid-engine Bora that followed it, the Ghibli kept a traditional front-engine, rear-drive layout, prioritising long-distance comfort and a lower, more dramatic silhouette over mid-engine handling — and it's this combination of race-derived power with genuine Grand Touring usability, in one of Giugiaro's most celebrated designs, that has made the first Ghibli one of the most sought-after classic Maseratis.
