About the Alfa Romeo Montreal
First shown as a concept at Expo 67 in Montreal — hence the name — the production Montreal arrived in 1970 with striking Gandini styling: NACA-style scoops behind the doors, slatted headlight covers, and proportions unlike anything else in Alfa's range at the time. Under the bonnet sat a 2.6-litre V8 derived from the Tipo 33 sports-racer, a genuinely exotic engine choice for a road car of this era.
It's a rarer and more technically interesting car than its relative obscurity suggests: a mainstream manufacturer putting a race-bred V8 and one of Bertone's boldest designs into series production, at a scale far smaller than Alfa's mainstream models. That combination of race-car engine and show-car styling is exactly what keeps the Montreal a favourite among Alfa specialists today.
