About the Alfa Romeo SZ
Developed with input from Zagato and built in low numbers, the SZ (Sprint Zagato) paired Alfa's proven, race-honed 75/Milano platform and 3.0-litre V6 with an angular, polarising composite body that drew as much criticism as praise when it launched. Alfa also fitted a hydraulic self-levelling suspension system developed with Koni, unusual technology for a car of this size and era.
Time has been kind to the design: what looked awkward in 1989 is now considered one of the more distinctive and collectible Alfa Romeos of the late 20th century, prized as much for its rarity and engineering as for the styling that originally divided opinion. A small run of open-top RZ (Roadster Zagato) versions followed a few years later.
