Ferrari 550 Maranello for sale

After the Berlinetta Boxer and Testarossa had defined Ferrari's V12 flagship for over twenty years with a mid-engine layout, the 550 Maranello returned to the front-engine, rear-drive formula last seen on the Daytona — a deliberate move Ferrari framed as going back to its GT roots, with a 5.5-litre V12 up front and a rear-mounted transaxle gearbox for weight balance.

Styled by Pininfarina with clean, understated lines rather than the wedge-shaped drama of its Boxer-era predecessors, the 550 is widely regarded as one of the great modern Ferrari GTs: usable, mechanically straightforward by V12 Ferrari standards, and the car that set up the format — front V12, rear transaxle — continued by the 575M, 599 and current 812 range.
